Hi,
I was unfortunate enough to bin my R1 last night when I hit a big patch of gravel on a very dark & twisty country road.
I was doing about 40mph, maybe a bit more, the front tyre just washed out instantly & the bike [and me!] hit the ground very hard & very suddenly. Luckily I was unhurt as I was wearing proper kit.
As I slid down the road I watched my bike slide off down the road on its left hand side…attached are some pics of the damage.
I can only say how impressed I am [& my mates were who were with me!] at the way they saved my pride & joy from major damage.
The damage to the bodywork was minimal… & doesn’t matter anyway as it’s my spare trackday bodywork [which was lucky!!!!]
The other damage was limited to a scuffed engine case & clutch lever.
Without the bar end slider I’d probably have bust the clutch lever, and without the crash bungs I’m sure the engine casing would’ve been holed.
I am without doubt that they meant the bike was still ride-able immediately afterwards. Which really saved my bacon ‘cos we were miles from anywhere!!
